Phase 1 engagement is now live
We have now commenced Phase 1 engagement for Castle Way Energy. We’d like to invite you to take part in this first phase of engagement on our proposals, which will run from Tuesday 16th June until Tuesday 28th July 2026 and we are keen to hear your views.
This engagement offers an opportunity for local residents and consultees to help shape our plans, alongside ongoing environmental and technical assessments. We would welcome feedback on the proposed layout of the energy park, as well as any local knowledge — such as nearby watercourses, roads and tracks, public rights of way, or anything else that may help inform our work. It is also a chance to help us develop a Legacy Fund and to tell us about any groups, projects or initiatives that could benefit from funding.
- Read our project brochure
- Browse our interactive map
- Fill in an online feedback form
- Contact the project team
Upon the completion of Phase 1 we will go away and consider the feedback received in this first round of engagement alongside the findings of ongoing technical assessments. We will then return later in 2026 for Phase 2 engagement when we will present our updated proposals to the local community and other stakeholders.
We are hosting an online webinar for the public to view our proposals in more detail:

Powering growth for a more secure future
Brockwell Energy is developing plans for a new nationally significant solar energy generation project to the west of Derby, known as Castle Way Energy.
Castle Way Energy will be classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), meaning planning consent will need to be determined by the Secretary of State. We will be consulting with landowners, neighbours, local residents and other community and business stakeholders on the early-stage development of a planning application to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) by late 2027.
Find out more about the planning process and how this project differs from a standard planning application here.

Our proposals include

A solar farm capable of generating up to 300 megawatts (MW) of clean power – enough to power approximately 81,000 homes, or almost all of the households in South Derbyshire combined

A connection – either underground or overhead line – to the electricity transmission network at Willington East 400 kV Substation

Associated infrastructure such as access roads and construction compounds

Works such as new wildlife habitat and tree planting to maintain and improve the surrounding natural environment, leading to a net gain in local biodiversity

A Legacy Fund that would provide financial contributions to local projects, ensuring that those living locally benefit from our plans
